Sutra Copying (Shakyo)
Character by Character, in Stillness
Tracing a model, you carefully copy the Heart Sutra one character at a time. There is no need to worry about whether your handwriting is good or not.
On the completed sutra, you write a wish (gan’i), and it is dedicated at the main hall of Rokuouin.
Buddha Tracing (Shabutsu)
Quiet Time with the Buddha
You trace the figure of Shakyamuni Buddha, the principal image of Rokuouin, and you can also finish it by coloring it in the colors you like. It is also recommended for children who find it difficult to write characters. Adults are welcome to try it as well.
With the Changing Garden
Please enjoy a time of quietly calming your mind while gazing at the garden, whose expression changes with each season.
About the Experience
No advance reservation is required. You can try it at any time during the admission reception hours (9:00 AM – 4:30 PM).
For guests staying at the temple lodging, the experience fee is included in the lodging rate.
The completed sutra copy or Buddha tracing is dedicated at the main hall. You may also take it home as a memento.
