Ending and beginning the day in a tranquil Zen temple.
After sunset, when visiting hours have ended at Rokuouin,
a special time begins that only overnight guests can spend.
In the evening, enjoy “Nenge no Akari,” an illumination for overnight guests only, in which the temple grounds wrapped in autumn leaves are lit with gentle lights.
Take your time and gaze at the quiet garden, which looks different from the daytime.
The next morning, stroll through the temple grounds before general visiting hours begin.
Enjoy the bamboo path and the morning garden, and have a breakfast of traditional vegetarian cuisine (shōjin ryōri) prepared by the wife of the resident priest.
For those who wish, we also offer a time of morning prayer and quiet sitting, and a sutra copying experience.
Step away from your busy daily life for a while and quietly face yourself.
Please take your time and enjoy the night and morning at Rokuouin.
